Sit down and strap in as we explore the skies through the real life helicopter adventures of pilots from around the world. We'll drop Special Forces troops into combat, land amongst the wildlife of the Southern Ocean, smile politely at the SAM missile operators on a restricted Iranian island, and fly low across the snow-capped crystal white peaks of New Zealand, and most places in between. And be back in time for lunch, with just the odd bullet hole. Join pilot Jim Trevors for an amazing insight into the the world of an international helicopter pilot. From active war zones through to flying in the Papua New Guinea highlands, this book is the next best thing to actually being there. So sit back, relax, and Welcome to the Sky!

HELICOPTER PILOTS ARE DIFFERENT"The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces and controls working in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously. There is no such thing as a gliding helicopter.
This is why being a helicopter pilot is so different from being an airplane pilot, and why, in general, airplane pilots are open, clear-eyed, buoyant extroverts and helicopter pilots are brooding introspective anticipators of trouble. They know if something bad has not happened, it is about to."

I've been a helicopter pilot for twenty-seven years and agree with Mr. Reasoner's spot-on appraisal of us, especially our being "introspective anticipators of trouble." But we're more than that. We're mostly itinerant laborers always on the prowl for a "better deal" than the one we've got right now. These "better deals" often put us in places most people can't spell or even locate on a world map. If we stay in the profession long enough each of us builds an archive of interesting "war stories" we occasionally share with family, our colleagues and non-pilot friends. Few of us, though, ever put our stories into writing. Fewer still take the next step and get those stories published. Jim Trevors has done both -- and done so brilliantly.
Trevors combines the eloquence of Ernest Gann with the matchless storytelling of Wilbur Smith. For those who'll never experience flight in a helicopter, Trevors' prose is as close to the "real deal" as it gets.
Well done, mate!

Welcome to the Sky! Jim Trevors 9781470033057 Books Reviews
Been involved in the industry in Canada and the Middle East for over 35 yrs. Can relate to many of the stories, been there, brought back many memories. Just shows you how small this industry is!
Very interesting and easy to read. I hope you are already collecting many more experiences for the next one.
Good job Jimmy!
Cheers,
Juan
A good insight into the working lives, stories and experiences of helicopter pilots from all around the world through the eyes of someone who was there. A very readable book with some good humour.
A throughly enjoyable book!.
Once I started it was hard to put down with some great adventures, stories and laugh out loud moments. Whether you are an aviation fan or not- this book is a must read! I have bought copies for friends and family and they all enjoyed it as much as I did. Will look for more by this author
